Home working ''can help firms satisfy corporate social responsibility''
Date:
07 Aug 2008
Business owners can help embrace the "green revolution" by allowing employees to work from home, it is claimed.
According Michael Desalles, a strategic analyst with research firm Frost & Sullivan, remote working helps companies meet corporate social responsibility responsibilities (CSR) by saving workers from the need to commute and reducing their carbon footprint.
Not only this, but cost savings made through reduced fuel bills and a shorter working day can help improve employee morale, reports Search CRM.
Writing in a research note, Mr Desalles said businesses increasingly appeared to be embracing remote working options as a result of environmental considerations.
He stated: "Overwhelmingly, when asked what is motivating the change, the feedback we get is that going green is simply the right thing to do.
"Companies have included environmental responsibility as part of their overall CSR commitment, based on the assumption that businesses have an environmental duty to shareholders, employees, clients and partners."
The government sees CSR as the business world''s contribution to nationwide sustainable development ambitions.
Its strategy aims were outlined in the 2005 UK Sustainable Development Strategy, while the concept of CSR plays an integral role in the Companies Act 2006.
